Losing our herb rights? And Daughters of the Earth

Hi women,
It's been a while since I've had time to write. So this Fair Trade Agreement (CAFTA) passed by a narrow margin and most of the country doesn't know it yet but we have lost our rights to much healthcare (alternative) and our vitamins and herbs through an international treaty that Bush pushed and will sign into law. This I hope is not as how it is being told to me but it is what I understand so far. I would love this to be false actually but the news I am getting is exactly this. This is today's bad news from the grassroots sorry to say but it is serious (July 28,, 2005). Supposedly there was a gag order on the media during this so we could not put up the fight we normally do when this goes through our own government. This is very serious for us women. I had three years of apprenticing in identifying plants but we are going to get closer to the land again to keep ourselves well. This is from one of the emails that I saw last week before it passed.

They are doing it under An International Treaty Law that will supercede a country's own individual choices, and if it passes everything that we believe in will become illegal, from herbs to vitamins (unless the doctor perscribes them), massage, hypnotherapy, or ANY ALTERNATIVE HEALTH THERAPY! This is already in place in Germany and a 4 day supply of Vitamin E cost $80!

So meanwhile (I, ALisa) in the springtime had this instinct of gathering the women on the land in Massachusetts at a place called Earthlands. I usually take July off from women's empowerment work because I am straight out for the entire year but I felt it was urgent at this time. I formed Daughters of the Earth Gathering, a Women's Tribal Event for Aug 5-7. The vision within a day called in twenty strong and amazing teachers who resonated with what we need to do. It is blossoming into beautiful promising vision soon to be enacted. I am looking forward to many things but most of all a women's council. I am wondering about what question or questions to focus upon and I am taking ideas if you have them. What would you want the women to council on at this time? I am hoping in my heart of hearts that we will take our place (continuously as we alreadydo) and bring forward new visions of courage and hope. We so need it right now.
Here is the website if you want to check it out. members.aol.com/alisastar/...thConf.html
There is a listing here too I think on events. I have been funding women left and right to be here. It is happening and it is time! I believe that women need to rise up right now. Our world needs our leadership badly. Many blessings to all and certainly healing, ALisa

  • Good morning and it is not as dire as yesterday's post around our vitamins and herbs. And I am glad. I didn't know if we would all need to be stashing up before things went off the shelf. Apparently with CAFTA (Central American Trade Agreement) passing narrowly (15 Republicans voted against it) in the House yesterday there was a small and somewhat hidden clause from the general public (due to a possible media gag) about forming a board to oversee vitamins and herbs. This kind of power naturally is what the pharmaceutical companies have wanted for a while. The "up" take of the argument was not to strip us of our vitamin and herb rights but to make sure that we are not getting anything that is dangerous for us and they will decide. I have no idea where hypnotherapists and massage therapists come in except that maybe in this international treaty and board there is also some governmental powers in place to oversee alternative healthcare? Maybe because these "for real" emails also mentioned S.America I can relax. I am not sure. Any more information out there?
And I am still taking feedback for what the women as daughters of this beautiful earth should council about in question form. What do you think the women most need to discuss in this moment from our hearts? ALisa

    • ALisa, I feel that our herb rights, and many others, are still very much at risk. We as women need to look for 2 things that have both been taken from us to a large extent already - our autonomy and our integrity. We need to better network with each other, in order to better stand on our own when we must.

Contradiction? No, we must learn enough from each other to be able to use it with confidence when we later find ourselved alone and in a crisis. Personal rights and power are being stolen from all of us, as women and as people, at an alarming rate right now, and empowering ourselves should be a major point of concern. This is a very politically-incorrect point of view (we are supposed to be nice little victims), and women need to give themselves permission to entertain it - and act upon it if they see its truth.

The real power of women is not to act more like men if they want to, it is to start acting more like women. With attitude.

      :-)
      • I could not agree with you more Grandma as a women's empowerment trainer for twenty years. I've reflected for a while now why I've been doing this amazing work in Priestess Path if we are at such a precarious point in time. I mean for what? I came to realize that when the shit hits the fan and we find ourselves separated from the web of connection that we may presently have, that the strength, the knowing, the courage, the experience of what we've learned together as women can be held individually as well as collectively. One of the gifts that we have as women is our ability to draw strength from our relationships and connections. I was told when I worked in Russia with women that this was their strength when it became the USSR.

I am glad to know that you are there believing this actually as I draw truth from this firm knowing in myself. ALisa
